Slip Trip & Fall Expert, Stairs, Walkways, Ramps, Decks, Accessibility, Floor Slip Resistance Testing

When providing litigation support to my clients, I call upon my extensive experience in building inspections, my technical knowledge, and my observational and communication skills to render objective and accurate evaluations.  My areas of service focus on personal injury cases relating to premises liability issues, slip, trip, and fall matters, floor slip-resistance testing, accessibility on paths of egress, parking lots and code compliance.

I use the knowledge gained when earning code-certified inspector credentials in multiple categories with the International Code Council (ICC), to evaluate the design and construction of stairs, walkways, ramps, decks, handrails, and paths of egress from a building.  My research on an assignment will utilize my library of both current and legacy building codes.  Peer reviewed scientific studies, nationally recognized consensus standards, and historical publications are referenced to ensure that my opinions, reports, and advice advance from industry recognized and defensible positions.

As a professional property inspector for 18 years, I have observed and reported on the condition of thousands of commercial, institutional and residential buildings.  I draw on that large bank of experience to establish a benchmark standard I can bring to my clients’ cases as a consulting and testifying expert.

Attorneys representing plaintiffs and those representing defendants have retained my services.  In the course of providing consulting services I have performed site inspections and floor slip-resistance tests, provided consultations, written reports, analyzed opposing expert witness reports, and testified.  The cases I have worked on involved personal injury or death.

If your case involves the complexities of building safety, building codes, slippery floors, or inadequate maintenance, please consider me to augment your legal team.  I can use my skills and knowledge to better inform counsel, the clients, and the trier of fact.

Please feel free to contact me for more information and a copy of my CV.

• Provided property condition assessments of commercial buildings for investors, owners, and lessees.

• Provides litigation support as a consulting and testifying expert.  Retaining counsel for both defendants and plaintiffs have requested consultation in cases involving slips and falls, and premises liability issues that have resulted in personal injury or death.  Services provided have included site inspections, floor slip resistance testing, consultations, research, written reports, declarations, and deposition and trial testimony .

• Provided building surveys for construction companies prior to, and after major construction and infrastructure projects.  Responsibilities included evaluating and documenting structural conditions of commercial, institutional, and residential buildings, and municipal infrastructure that could be influenced by nearby construction projects.  Major projects have included tunnel construction for Sound Transit’s light rail link from downtown Seattle to Northgate Station, construction of a new seawall at Elliott Bay on Seattle’s waterfront, the Pt. Defiance by-pass rail project in Tacoma, Washington, and construction of high-rise office buildings and transit stations.

Case Summary:  The plaintiff suffered serious head injuries when he slipped and fell on wet exterior steps at a retail business.  I discovered that when the business owners renovated the stairs they hired a non-licensed contractor who disregarded the architect's drawings.  The non-conforming structure presented a safety hazard by not providing a proper handrail at the stairs.  As well, I provided evidence that the wood-plastic composite decking used on the stair treads did not provide a slip resistant walking surface.  After the production of multiple reports, responses, and declarations, the case settled with a substantial payment to the plaintiff.

• Provided residential inspections for buyers, pre-listing inspections, and builder’s warranty inspections.
